Cleaning & Exam

Dental Cleaning

Regular dental cleanings are essential for maintaining the health of teeth, gums, and mouths, and the office of William E. Leboe DDS offers meticulous professional cleanings. During your teeth cleaning, we'll remove plaque and tartar, which is hardened plaque that is firmly adhered to a tooth's surface. Tartar forms below and above the gum line, and the only way to remove it is by getting a professional cleaning with the use of special instruments. Plaque is a sticky film on the teeth that is made up of food debris, saliva, and bacteria that can inflame the gums. Complete plaque removal is essential in order to prevent the development of periodontal disease, and our professional polishing removes plaque that normal brushing can't reach. We employ highly experienced dental hygienists to perform dental cleanings and educate patients about proper oral care. We'll discuss measures you can take at home to remove plaque and prevent the formation of tartar above and below the gum line.

Dental Exam

During your examination, we'll do dental X-rays to assess the current state of your teeth, gums, and mouth. These X-rays are able to detect problems such as tooth decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. They also allow us to visualize the position of teeth and roots. In our gum disease evaluation, we check the gums and bones around the teeth to screen for signs of periodontal disease. We also palpate the neck, lips, face, tongue, throat, gums, and tissues to screen for oral cancer. When we look at your teeth, we'll examine the surface of every tooth with special dental instruments to check for decay. If you have current fillings, crowns, or other work, we'll examine the status and health of those restorations as well.
